Recommended Browsers
We aim to produce a standards-compliant site with backwards compatibility. For full functionality and display, we recommend the FireFox 2 and Internet Explorer 7 browsers
1. FireFox 2
Setup of FireFox:
- Install or upgrade to the latest stable release of the FireFox browser from www.mozilla.com/firefox
- Go to www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/fonts and follow the instructions to download the fonts (the "font installer" link in the first item in the right-hand side box)
- MathML should now be fully supported. The third example on the MathML test page indicates whether the MathML fonts have been applied correctly.
2. Internet Explorer 7
Setup of Internet Explorer:
- Install or update Internet Explorer 7 to the latest stable release (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx)
- Go to www.dessci.com/en/products/mathplayer/ and follow the instructions to download and install MathPlayer
- MathML should now be fully supported. The MathML test page should display correctly.
3. Other browsers
The site has been produced to work in as wide a range of browsers as possible while supporting a full feature set.
Internet Explorer 6 can support MathML using the MathPlayer installation instructions above.
Internet Explorer 4 and 5 may have some limitations in visual appearance and JavaScript features and there may be some JavaScript errors. Do not install MathPlayer into Internet Explorer less than version 6 as this will cause problems.
Older browsers will display with a simplified visual appearance and JavaScript features will be disabled.
We use PNG images in this site and some very old browsers may not be able to display them.
